Big, yes, and now even better. Cheray Hall’s Room 101, the college’s largest classroom had a summer facelift that vastly improved instructional technology and comfort in the heavily used space.
Cheray 101 is used for science lectures, as well as large sections of psychology, religious studies, business and other classes. It’s also where the Student Association convenes each Tuesday night and is the site of regular special events such as speakers or films.
Gone are an old sink and a plain laboratory-style table that were in the front of the room. They’ve been replaced with a custom-made wooden podium that includes a Crestron touch pad control system. The renovated hall also has two high-definition (HD) projectors, “surround-sound” audio system, Blu-ray DVD capability, comfortable new cushioned theater seating, carpeting and improved handicapped-accessible spaces.
The presence of two projectors instead of one allows presenters to use the white board for writing on one side even as they simultaneously project images such as PowerPoints, videos or computer screens on the other side.
Other features for the hall include an HD document camera that provides excellent resolution and can zoom in for intricate detail on projected documents. There’s also a new paint job and better lighting. Seating capacity remains at 105.
