Admissions wants to know who you know
It helps to know someone. That’s the case in looking for a job. And more and more that’s the case when it comes to finding the right college.
Kristin DeLuca Fitzgerald ’91, senior associate director of admission, has been working with the prospective student program “Nominate a Future Knight,” formerly known as the “Just One” program, for 11 years. She sees how important it is to the decision-making process when prospective students hear about Saint Michael’s from their relatives, neighbors and friends instead of through a Web search or by picking up literature at a college fair.
“This past year, 39 first-year students came to Saint Michael’s because of our referral program,” she says. “We draw our incoming students from all over the country, and for students who don’t know anything about Vermont, it helps for them to hear about the experiences of someone they know firsthand.”

Reinhart Meisenheimer ’12
Hometown: Plattsburgh, NY
Major: Biology
Referred by: Donna Atwater, associate director of career development (and his aunt)
Why did he choose Saint Michael’s?
I applied to four colleges and ultimately chose Saint Michael’s because I knew what I was looking for—a small college with a lot of opportunity—and it fit the bill. I knew about Saint Michael’s from visiting my aunt here, but there were so many things I didn’t know until I became a student here.
Amanda Mulligan ’12
Hometown: Philadelphia
Major: Theater
Minor: Journalism
Referred by: Marisa Mulligan’ 09
Why did she choose Saint Michael’s?
Saint Michael’s was the last school I visited when I was I was looking at colleges. I was interested in the theater program and the faculty set me up to see a bunch of classes and rehearsals and the spring musical. People were so welcoming. I knew it was the right college.
